Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust
The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust always has been an extremely popular model amongst Rolex enthusiasts. In fact, it is one of Rolex’s flagship models. Introduced in 1945, this watch carried a great deal of significance as it was launched by Rolex to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the founding of Wilsdorf & Davis. It was one of the first Rolex models to carry a date display on its dial through an aperture at the 3 o'clock position. The movement used in this model functioned accurately during the date change, which was triggered using stored energy.
IWC Portofino automatic
It would be as inappropriate to spend too much time talking about the Portofino Automatic as it would be to give it more than three hands: hours, minutes and seconds. Rounded off by a discreet date display, and all powered by the 30110-calibre mechanical automatic movement. And that's all: a lesson in understatement from Schaffhausen. Nevertheless, this timeless classic has one extra feature this year that is worthy of note. The case now measures 39 millimetres rather than 38. The extra size takes away none of its elegance but does give it a more imposing physical presence. The shape of the Portofino Automatic is a statement of perfect simplicity, underscored by the all-round balance of its proportions and details.

The eye wanders continuously over the dials. But all my subjects were well behaved and every needle was where it should have been…” The gripping collection of tales contained in “Wind, Sand and Stars”, from which this quotation is taken, is perhaps Saint Exupéry’s most impressive anthem to flying under the extreme conditions of that pioneering age. The scene changes from one continent to another and through many different time zones: from the endless tracts of Patagonia to the icy wastes of the cordilleras and the hostile expanses of the Sahara. So what could have been more appropriate than to give the third special edition dedicated to Saint Exupéry a UTC display. The abbreviation stands for Universal Time Coordinated. While your reference time – the time at home, for instance – continues to run normally in a separate window, local time can be moved backwards or forwards one hour at a time using the crown, depending on the direction of your flight. The date display is synchronized with the hour display. The engraving on the back cover is of a Latécoère 25, the aircraft Saint Exupéry used to fly on the postal routes in Argentina and Chile.

A little bit about me
I have always been interested in watches ever since my late father started taking them apart and mending them for his friends.Over the last year I have been lucky enough to acquire a few that had taken my fancy and they are shown above, there are a lot I lust after but I doubt if I will get them unless I win the lottery.
Enjoy looking
